According to news reports, on October 24, 2018, Wingtech Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese contract electronics manufacturer, announced in securities disclosures to the Shanghai Stock Exchange that it intended to acquire Nexperia B.V., a Netherlands semiconductor company, for approximately 25.2 billion yuan ($3.63 billion). Wingtech Technology reportedly has stated it intends to acquire an existing owner of Nexperia that will give it indirect ownership of 74.86% of Nexperia. (Reuters, China’s Wingtech to acquire Dutch semiconductor firm Nexperia for $3.6 bln, Oct. 25, 2018.) According to Reuters, this plan “is subject to regulatory approval including from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).” (Id.) Nexperia, a manufacturer of discretes, logic and MOSFET devices, is the former Standard Products business of NXP Semiconductors N.V., which was sold to a consortium of Chinese based investments in 2017 after securing CFIUS clearance.
